Microscopic Life - The Cells and Their Stories

My students need microscopes in order to study microscopic life, which is part of the 6th grade science standards.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of learners, who have proven they truly appreciate hands-on activities. They are inquisitive, and I want to further nurture this nature with learning opportunities that allow them to generate their own questions.

While the year has just begun, we have been building a classroom that celebrates the importance of making mistakes and the learning opportunities they provide, and so many of my students have already taken the brave step in publicly sharing their thinking, which has been inspiring!

My Project

Hands-on use of microscopes will engage students in the study of the basic cellular structures to the myriad of multicellular organisms comprising our world!

Our science curriculum places emphasis on the use of microscopes, cell structures, and diversity of life, but our budget does not allow for the purchase of microscopes.

Students will be using these microscopes to study the cell structures of plants, cheek cells, and single-celled organisms such as paramecium, amoebae, flagellates.

It is my hope to provide my students with a greater view of our world, and inspire one or more of them to pursue a path of study in the sciences.
