My Project
I would love to have hand held microscopes for my second grade students. We do small group center activities with math, writing, and reading but not SCIENCE. I’d love to provide my kids with materials to investigate the “mini” world around them. My goal is for them to investigate coins, leaves, sand, and keep a journal of what they see. Six students each day will have access to the digital microscopes and I know it will inspire them to see their world in a broader light. By introducing items to investigate in class, I know they will bring in other items to investigate. I’m am especially inspired to spread an interest in science because my daughter is a scientist at Yale. As a child she loved looking through mini microscopes and it made her want to know more about our world. Science is not just reading from a text and answering questions. It is exploring the world around us.
