For Mother's Day, each child created a calendars for their grown ups at home. Each project had 24 brightly colored pages with hand made self portraits and a corresponding calendar page. The students worked carefully each month of the school year, (unknowingly) prepping for this project. They were so excited when I gave them their collection of portraits and they got to glue them into the calendars. Parents responded happily about the quality and effort put into their child's projects.\r\n I also created individual pencil/supply boxes for my students that contained fine markers in 12 colors, new crayons, glue stick, and pencils. The students were so excited to be able to replace their old supplies and to have fresh new supplies. \r\n In Science, we created butterfly life cycle booklets, which I forgot to get a picture of, but they kept a colorful, detailed, journal as our larve went through metamorphosis. In Math class, we created \"Array Cities\" using watercolor paints, and construction paper, sharpies, and our new gluestickes. We were learning about what multiplication actually means and showing it in an artistic fashion. Parents and other teachers were impressed with all of our projects! The kids in room 6 have been going back to look at butterfly wings, legs, and antennae at our science center. They were very interested in the locust because they had not heard of that bug before. He said he has gone home and looked up locusts on google.\r\n\r\nTo begin our investigation, I taught a small group how to use the microscopes and they became the professionals and then they each trained a friend. Then those friends each trained another friend and before we knew it, the whole class got to become scientists. We have even had yard supervisors stop by to see what the kids were looking at. They were so impressed by the clarity, and ease of viewing specimens. The kids were so excited when they said our class is the coolest.\r\n\r\nWe have many more slides to view and will be using them in our science center for the rest of the year.
