it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Another school year is about to start, all my students will be returning for in-person learning. During the pandemic, the majority of our laboratory activities were done online. It was really challenging. All laboratories were restricted so most of my students were mentored by scientists virtually. This school year, my Research Club students are continuing their research involving microbiology in person with me inside the classroom. Being able to work with the students in person will definitely help them catch up and develop the skills that they missed during the lockdown. These kits will be beneficial and useful for my students' research. One of my students is working on her 3rd year study of Novel applications of Native Sonoran Desert Plants which involves the interactions between the plant extracts and antibiotics on combating pathogenic bacteria. On the other hand one group of my students will be conducting research on how too much exposure to Carbon dioxide can cause bacteria to develop antibiotic resistance. Another student is working on her 2nd year of research on utilizing Native plants from developing countries on preventing the growth of tooth decay bacteria. Lastly, another group of students will be creating novel antimicrobial lipsticks.
These students are aspiring to qualify and compete once again in the upcoming International Science and Engineering Fair.
For the past 3 years these students have been very successful in every science fair competition we join.
All my research club students belong to underrepresented groups in the field of STEM. But with the help of our previous donors, we proved that anyone can be a scientist. On behalf, of my students I would like to extend our advance thanks and gratitude.
