Mice, Mice Baby!

Help me give my students the computer necessities, of headphones and mice, they need to be successful in our library.

My Students

Our school is a public, Montessori magnet school. We have a diverse population of over 550 Pre-K through 8th graders. Being in an urban district, many of our students come from impoverished conditions.

For our students, school is a safe place they look forward to going each day.

Students come to school looking for hugs from their teachers and comfort in their classrooms. Many of our students don't have books at home, or the opportunity to visit public libraries. Our school library is a special place for these students. A place that gives them the freedom to travel the world, and join adventures, through books.

My Project

We were very lucky to have recently received Chromebook laptops to use in our school library. Unfortunately, for our youngest students, they have not yet developed the motor skills they need to be successful with these new devices. Just like they might need a jumbo crayon while they learn to color and draw, they need a hands-on mouse to navigate their cursor. They simply are not ready yet to use a laptop track pad.

These little learners need computer mice that will allow them to use our new technology, and to grow in their confidence and independence.

We also need headphones that are designed for younger learners, so that they can take full advantage of the incredible audiovisual programs we have to offer.

Many of our students come from low income households who have not had exposure to technology like their peers in neighboring, more affluent, school districts. We would like to give our students every opportunity to explore the tools they will need to be successful in their lifelong journey of learning.
