Promoting kindness and instilling a growth mindset are the foundations for my classroom. One of the first books we read is “How Full is Your Bucket?” This inspires kindness from the beginning of the year. When students can show tolerance, patience, and gentleness for peers and adults within the school setting, the classroom is a warm place to spend the day. Students in my class are able to not only show each other how to be kind little people, but encourage their peers with the “I can do it!” attitude of positivity and growth thinking.
When observing my students you may hear phrases such as: “I am going to train my brain,” or “My brain is getting stronger,” and “I believe in the power of yet!”
Our Title I school provides breakfast and lunch for every student, which means fewer food insecurities and more learning. Students understand they get what they need to be successful and that doesn’t always mean they get the same things. My first graders are confident, “I’ll try anything,” kind, problem solvers, and are happy to come to school each day.
My Project
We were blessed this year with a chromebook cart for our grade level! The teachers and students are excited. We now can integrate technology into everyday lessons and not "go to the computer lab" for a technology lesson. Having technology available for student daily use will also benefit the children when they have to stay home because they will know hot to log on.
We need computer mice for easier use of chromebooks.
Students have the technology needed for their education but using a mouse is much easier for 6 year olds than using the touchpad. I like to teach students to copy and paste in their documents and without a mouse it's tricky. Thank you for considering my project.
