My students need manipulatives to explore science. From April to the end of May we will study insects. We would like to watch the metamorphosis of butterflies. The Butterfly Bungalow will be used to observe metamorphosis.
My students are special because each student has a different disability. They each have their own strengths. My students range from age 3 to 7. For most this is their first exposure to school. They are eager to learn and are loving hands on activities. We are a free and reduced lunch school, so all students eat free lunch and breakfast at school. Due to income levels, my students do not get exposure to many life experiences. Let this be an experience they do get to have.
My Project
My students will get to do hands on learning. They will see life begin before their eyes and learn empathy by taking care of another living being. My students can observe caterpillars morph into butterflies with the Butterfly Bungalow, something they may never have another chance to do. They will read The Hungry Caterpillar and In The Tall, Tall Grass prior to raising butterflies. We will dig for pretend worms, paint butterflies, cut out insect shapes, sequence story plots and observe the magic of science. When using the Insect and Spider Discovery Kit, my students would be able to explore and investigate the way bugs look and feel meeting sensory input for many. This would be something my students could explain to others and something they could remember for years and years.
