Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will give my intermediate students the amazing opportunity to experience the metamorphosis of both butterflies and ladybugs. Because this project will be housed in the library, all students will have the opportunity to watch as the butterflies and ladybugs transform everyday. In addition, it will give every student ownership of the new insects that are transforming in the library!

7th grade life science will be invited in to the library witness and have discussions on the metamorphosis of both the Painted Lady Butterflies and the Ladybugs.

We will also invite our Field Study Elective class in to partake in the wonderment. Students in other classes coming to the library will also get to witness the amazement of metamorphosis. Ultimately, we want every student on campus to experience metamorphosis in real time. We hope that by providing these opportunities, students will develop a new understanding and respect for nature and the environment.

The students at our campus come from diverse backgrounds, and almost half are on free and reduced lunch. In addition, our students represent a multitude of cultures and speak a plethora of languages. Our students have always come together and thrived in the library experiencing and exploring exciting opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. The library has always been their safe learning commons. The Painted Lady Butterfly Kit and the Ladybug land will provide an opportunity that we have not yet offered on my campus. We are excited to continue providing new opportunities for all students!
