Help me give my students metal element cubes, periodic table of the element posters, metallic Sharpies, and other items related to a study of the metals of antiquity.
There are seven metals of antiquity: gold, silver, copper, tin, lead, iron, and mercury. All of these metals have played important roles in human history and invention. Exploring metals provides a wonderful opportunity for learning about ancient history, science, arts, and much more.
My students will use these metal-related objects to build vocabulary and understanding of concepts such as density, malleability, and value.
The metal cube sets will be used to measure density of copper, lead, and iron. Posters of the Periodic Table of the Elements and the illustrate card deck of elements will be used to build science vocabulary. The metallic markers and cardstock will be used to create projects to demonstate understanding of the role each metal has played---and continues to play---in human history.
A study of the metals of antiquity will allow us to explore offshoots such as conductivity, mining technology through time, and legislation related to mine safety. Your generosity will make possible a unit of study which will benefit my students in multiple classes for years to come.
