My students need a Hydraulic Pipe Bender, Plasma Cutter, Metal Cutting Band Saw, and other tools to have a safe, reliable, and functional metal-shop to learn in.
My students walk in ready to deliver and take on the tasks of the class. When they are all here, I can confidently say, "all of my favorite students are here today," as they boast about who, if any, is the actual favorite.
I teach at a K-12 school where students readily accept one another as they are.
Their camaraderie impresses me daily and allows us to dive deep into authentic learning experiences. My students' exposures to opportunities are limited in our distant rural setting. As a result, the students love novel, new information, and are filled with curiosity.
My Project
The industry is filled with workspaces that foster innovation through safety, function, and reliability. It's time to offer that same environment for our youth, with the skill of metal-working and welding. Last year, we revamped our woodworking abilities thanks to donors like you.
Our request is a continuation to rebuild a once shut-down shop program.
We plan to continuously pursue the goal of providing a training ground that emulates a real world, innovative environment.
Our requests were chosen with the goals of safety, reliability, and function in mind. We find these things in many of our workplaces, let's offer this in our schools as well. This will better prepare our students for their future.
Our efforts to set the shop up for increased student engagement has had an extremely meaningful impact and supporting this project will accelerate our upward spiral.
The bandsaw requested will be used to cut material to length as well as cut cross sections out of weld samples. The plasma cutter requested is a tool that will allow students to cut creative and organic shapes out of metal in a safe, efficient, and industrious way. A tubing bender will enable students to fabricate creative designs that will also require applied geometry. A drill press is requested for students to drill holes in their projects.
Those in metal-working, welding, and other industries know that tooling setups increase costs. Thought was put into our requests with production setup in mind, increasing the time a student is engaged, active, and learning.
Successful manufacturing environments do not have workers waiting in line to engage with their metal work and welding. Let's have a similarly productive environment, but with the all-important goal of student learning. Let's maximize our students' opportunity in the demanded, important field of metal-working and welding.
