Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I never teach my pupils. I only provide the conditions in which they can learn." ~ Albert Einstein. Our class is an amazing team of students because we are always setting new goals for ourselves and helping each other to reach those goals.
We are fourth and fifth grade students in a 12:1 bridge class.
We have special learning needs. Some of us have learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, autism or attention deficit disorders. School is not always an easy place for us. We need a smaller class ratio so that we can stay focused. Most of us are also English Language Learners. We work with a special education teacher, an ESL teacher, a guidance counselor, a speech and language pathologist and an occupational therapist. We love soccer, video games and learning about science & social studies topics. Sometimes we need our teachers to give us extra time to complete tasks or to repeat a lesson multiple times. We learn best when we incorporate all of our senses. We frequently need movement breaks to help us maintain our attention to a task. Regardless, we are always striving to be leaders of ourselves and others!
My Project
Our class is going to spend some time learning about the Kindness Rock Movement that has spread across the United States in the last decade through close reading and research. After learning about the impact of this movement, the students will discuss this question, "How can we use Kindness Rocks to spread messages of hope during the Pandemic in PS 1 and the surrounding Sunset Park Community!
We are Leaders and we intentionally use the 7 Habits to help make our community stronger!
By initiating and participating in this community arts project, it is our hope that we will lift the spirits of students, teachers and families as we cope with the changes in our community as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic!
Art is a pathway to healing and we want to help our community heal.
