This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in the beautiful city of Victoria, Texas. We have a diverse population who mainly come from the neighborhood our school is located in.

These students come from diverse families and include English language learners and students with special needs.

As a Title I school, we generally serve most students a free breakfast. Our school district was hit by Hurricane Harvey and is still recovering. We have many families who are staying with other families or in accommodated housing. The majority of our students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have little access to extracurricular activities or outside learning opportunities.

We would love for every student to come to school ready to learn and to fall in love with learning, but sometimes we have to help them fall in love with learning like teachers fall in love with teaching.

My Project

Technology is emerging as one of the most beneficial ways to engage students in the classroom as well as the general society. Technology is being integrated into our lives each more every day and it is up to us as teachers and parents to make sure students are able to solve problems, investigate new ideas, and think through complex ideas in both concrete form such as text books and internet resources, as well as through abstract mediums such as virtual reality and other integrated technology.

These MERGE cubes take technology to a new level for children to investigate abstract ideas, such as space and engineering, through a VR setting and allow them to manipulate them in the classroom.

By allowing students to be hands on with their learning through the emerging technology it prepares them in school as well as introducing them to the technology they will have to be familiar with to be successful in the workplace when they join society.

These cubes will be used as learning centers after the main concept has been taught to allow them to practice the ideas and integrate the knowledge through hands on practice and manipulation that allows them to work at their own pace and take ownership of their learning.
