Sixth grade is a pivotal year for teaching collaboration, group work, and self-advocacy before the transition to middle school. In this age of technology, my students need opportunities to engage in their learning and with their peers on a regular basis.
My students come from a variety socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds with individual learning modalities, special needs, and varying learning levels, which ultimately create our awesome classroom family!
Pre-teen is a difficult age where a love for inquisitive learning needs to be instilled. Being able to provide them the opportunity to work and create in a variety of settings is essential to fostering a love for independence as well as teamwork.
My students are uniquely different, talented, and inquisitive. Engaging them in their learning and helping them to become active participants in my learning environment is my goal at all times. Our classroom is a family environment where differences are respected, cultivated, and nurtured.
Our family is in need of mentor texts that use literacy to bring key concepts to life while promoting academic conversations. Exposing students to a variety of texts is critical to creation of a love for literature both fiction and nonfiction.
My Project
Our classroom family is in need of mentor texts to be used to promote learning across all academic areas. Mentor texts are incredibly important to show students how different texts share common literary facets as well as utilize common literary devices. Using a read aloud as a tool to incite interest while building background is vital to classroom discussion and learning.

Connecting students personal interests to what we are studying is imperative to their overall learning. What is relevant to them becomes of importance.
Having mentor texts in the classroom that support curriculum being learned would be such a gift. Our classroom family would be incredibly appreciative.
