My students need strong mentor texts that will foster their love of reading and writing. My students will use these texts to emulate the writing of great authors and think deeper about literature and informational texts.
I teach in a Title I school in Missouri where more than 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, many of our students are English language learners and we have the highest mobility rate in our district.
My students are energetic, eager to learn and love to take on new challenges!
They come to school every day counting on our classroom to be a safe and respectful environment where they feel loved, valued, and given every opportunity to learn.
My Project
This school year, I am moving from kindergarten to second grade and need to update my classroom library with more challenging and interesting texts. These texts will be used in reader's and writer's workshop as mentors, books that I will use in my focus lessons as well as in individual student conferences to teach skills and strategies.
Students benefit when exposed to high quality, well-written and thought-provoking texts as they grow into proficient readers and writers.
In reading, these texts will allow for deeper level thinking, questioning, and inferencing. In writing, these texts will provide specific examples of writing conventions, strong leads, strong endings, text structure, sentence fluency and more that students can then emulate in their own writing.
