My Students

My students are learning and growing in a small, tight knit, school community. They are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are future world travelers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and teachers... They are our future and I want to help aid them in every way I can so they are able to achieve greatness!

My students have a passion for reading and a love for listening to stories being read to them.

Despite the hardships many of them face in the low socioeconomic town, they still come to school with a big smile and try their very best each and every day.

My Project

These books will be used as mentor texts throughout the course of the year for narrative and opinion writing. Stories like Tight Times, by Barbara Shook Hanzen and A Bike Like Sergio's, by Maribeth Boelts will show strong examples of what a narrative story is, including a beginning, middle, and end, and how the author gives details to enhance understanding and visual representation.

Mentor texts for writing workshop is critical for 2nd graders to understand what strong writing looks like and sounds like.

Some opinion books include, Hey, Little Ant, by Hannah and Philip Hoose, and Red Is Best, by Kathy Stinson. These stories will be read and referred back to many times throughout our opinion unit, in order to set a clear example of what an opinion is and how to write one.
