Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very diverse; over 80% of our population is Hispanic. They are very eager to learn English and prove their knowledge through reading and writing. Just over seventy percent of our school district also receives free or reduced-price lunch.

Our students have dedicated teachers to not only teach them a new language, but also the Common Core academic standards.

Students are able to strive and do their best in the classroom because they are comfortable and know our school is a safe and rewarding place. Although school can be a challenging place for some of our students, they always come with smiles on their faces because they feel welcome here.

My Project

Our school district is implementing a new reading curriculum this school year and our students are LOVING the topics or themes of each unit. The books in this project will extend the development of the rich knowledge students are developing in the classroom.

These books will also help students learn more about cultures they are unfamiliar with, and ensuring that students grow their understanding and appreciation of the world's diversity.

We have students asking to research these topics on their own time, ask for their themed books in the library, and even bring items or books from home that support the theme they are learning about in their classroom. This collection of books will bring extra reading to our students fingertips!
