This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance our Book of the Month initiative to help foster positive character traits in our students. By having one book title across the school each month, we can have shared conversations about what it means to make a new friend. We have a large immigrant population and often have new students arriving throughout the school year.
This book is particularly meaningful to our students as they learn to adapt to life in the United States and strive to make connections and build friendships with their classmates.
Every book that is part of our Book of the Month intiative is read aloud on our school website by a staff reader, in both English and Spanish, for our families to read at home. All of these books are also available for our students in the classroom to read over and over again. The activities that the teachers do with the students related to the book have ranged from text-to-self connections to supporting their reading comprehension skills through writing. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help our students grow stronger in reading.
