This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Second grade is full of excited readers! Part of becoming great scholars and readers is learning grammar. My favorite way to teach grammar is by using mentor sentences. The books in this project are a great way to introduce the mentor sentence each week and get the students excited about grammar.

Each week, we start out by reading one of these fabulous books.

Then, we label everything we can including: nouns, verbs, adjectives, vowel patters, suffixes, prefixes, you name it! It makes grammar lessons much more engaging and really solidifies the knowledge for the students. The best way to get the students excited is by reading the mentor sentence book aloud to set the week off right.
