This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Taking care of our social and emotional health is vital, especially in the high school setting. Navigating feelings, thoughts, expectations, and wellness is no easy task, especially in the body and mind of a teenager! Some of my students experience anxiety, learning difficulties, anger issues, depression, past trauma, etc. These SEL tools will help students maintain focus during class time, calm nerves and senses throughout their school day and find comfort during counseling sessions.

Mindfulness journals will be offered to encourage practicing self-care and help students become more aware of their feelings and identify triggers or negative emotions.

Stress balls and calming tools will help reduce physical symptoms of anger and anxiety, while improving focus and concentration. Meditation aids, tactile toys and sensory objects will promote groundedness and help reinforce the principles of mindfulness throughout the day, providing students with tools to navigate their emotions and thoughts more effectively, leading to healthier emotional responses and better decision-making.

Resilience is essential for my students, who deal with personal, academic, or social difficulties. By promoting mindfulness and meditation, my students can come to my office for a safe, quiet space, use a calming koala or other aid to reduce stress and learn new ways to calm themselves so they can see and be the best versions of themselves. The goal is to assist my students with learning skills that extend beyond academics, helping them navigate the challenges of high school and beyond with greater ease and confidence.
