My Project
In my classroom I have a corner set up as a puzzle corner. I start out the year with an interactive art activity where they design their own puzzle piece representing things they love -- then hook the pieces all together to make a wall art piece title "Make a Connection." It allows students to see that even in our difference we all fit together somewhere with others. In my third year of having this corner I have found that students sometime need a quiet place to start their day before school, a quiet winding-down place afterschool, or an early finisher activity during a class period to just do something other than scroll on their computers or phones or jump into the next project.
My students love this corner as they can sit and work quietly side by side with other students they might not even know with a common goal of a "brain break."
I always find that this calming corner allows students to refocus their attention on the next task at hand or find a calming quiet they need to move through their day. The science themed puzzles I request always tie into our curriculum and become part of the wall decoration as the year continues.
