This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a NYC Public School Math Teacher in a HS in downtown Manhattan. I have been a teacher for over ten years. This year I am teaching Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and AP Pre-Calc. We still see the effects of the COVID lockdown in our classrooms. Students are more hesistant to engage and talk with their classmates than before the pandemic. I am hopeful that these supplies will help students feel happy and successful, especially in math class, which is difficult for students.
I am asking for some items to make my classroom more enjoyable and create a fun working aesthetic to learn.
We are asking for Lysol wipes to keep the desks clean and smelling fresh so students feel compelled to learn with one another and safe in the classroom.
I am asking for fun erasers for our classroom - - so that students feel a warm friendly vibe in the classroom and can use these erasers to fix their math problems. We want to let kids know that mistakes are welcome. And these erasers say that mistakes are fun too ! These animal erasers are perfect.
I am requesting Dragon Shield card sleeves so that students can play math games with them with cards. Games are a big part of learning mathematics and probability. These shields will allow students a boost of fun and enjoyment that their mental health deserves.
We have requested Expos so students can work together at the board on math problem. These are essential to get kids talking to one another. I find that so much screen time has deteriorated students mental health during the pandemic. We want to take a break from screens and encourage students to talk to one another and write things on the board as a team.
