Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My high school students are amazing people who are experiencing unfair life circumstances beyond their control. Many live in shelters. Most suffer from food insecurity. Some are late to school due to sleep deprivation from caring for younger siblings or working the night shift at their full-time job. They are faced with mental health challenges daily.

Teaching students to manage stress, anxiety, and depression is critical and our classroom focuses on creating a safe, secure, welcoming environment for all students.

Mentally healthy students arrive at school ready to learn and are able to engage with adults and peers. They are more likely to have caring and supportive connections. They are also more likely to graduate and view their academic experience positively. This is not the case for my students. They need support and a safe space where they can relax, be creative, and connect. My classroom is a place where all students are celebrated, seen, and heard. Students are encouraged to express themselves through writing, art, music, etc. We are seeking donations for a small table, posterboard, colored paper, and a sweet treat to establish a corner oasis.
