Mental Health for NBHS Students! Restoring One at a Time

My Project

High school students are often presumed more independent than other grade levels since they are close to adulthood. My educational experience has debunked this idea. We frequently forget that not all students, at the elementary or middle school levels, master the skills required for success in their mental health journey.

My school community is typically low-income which makes it difficult for parents to supply materials vital to students' healthy social and emotional development.

Most school supplies are provided by parents or the school but the items I have requested will help supply the social developmental needs for students. This component will enhance student-to-student collaboration skills which research shows enhances learning. The items requested will also supply the NBHS Counseling Corner toolbox to be used during daily counselor interaction with students each day during all lunches. The purpose is to complete quick mental health check-ins during which students may journal, play a therapy game, or self-regulate with a weighted lap blanket or individual fidget tool (e.g. Rubik's cube).

My goal for this project is to help restore students' social skills, mental health, and emotional regulation that was so adversely affected over the past four to six years. My students are special because I was once the NBHS student who needed the support I am trying to provide for current students. They are at a pivotal point in their will to be restored and your donations will help accomplish this goal.
