This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Now more than ever, we understand that our students' mental health needs have a deep impact in their academics, sense of self, and overall outlook on life. At our school, we strive to address student wellness in a way that stresses their mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. We have seen anxiety and depression levels hit record highs during the Covid-19 pandemic and to help students develop coping strategies, we have introduced ideas such as movement for mental wellness.

In our MEChA club, we have blended the ideas of social justice, racial equity, and taking care of our minds and our bodies.

We use our meeting time to discuss current issues that affect our communities, engage in social justice campaigns, but also include yoga, meditation, and movement as essential parts of our work. We need the materials to make our mindfulness movement practice sustainable and integral. We would like to have material at hand, ready to be used whenever students need them.
