My Project

Students excel in school when their social, emotional, academic and physical needs are met. Adolescents who menstruate are often caught by a surprise period. Rather than panicking and going home or spending time out of class trekking to the nurse's office, students can have menstrual products within their classroom and even have a personal stash if requested.

Anxiety about menstruation shouldn't disrupt a student's ability to focus at school.

When students know they have access to supplies like pads, tampons, extra underwear and heating pads, they can save brain space for new learning.

I work with high school students with disabilities in an equity focused school. My students show up for school eager to learn and participate, regardless of their home situation or personal limitations. I would not want the very personal and potentially embarrassing event of breakthrough bleeding to interrupt their schooling.
