Memorable Masterpieces: Promoting Common Core Standards through Hands on Art
My students need hands on art supplies to keep creating our themed weekly alphabet crafts and table activities. We need paint as we are exploring our color names, learning about color mixing and creating artwork daily.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Smith's classroom raised $323

My Students
Our students are a diverse population of students coming from San Miguel and Paso Robles. We are in a rural location that makes access to supplies limited. Many of my students face many obstacles that make learning difficult including learning disabilities, poverty and English as a second language. Since we are such a small school access to enrichment is limited. My students love coming to school and greatly benefit from hands-on activities to help keep them engaged. My students love being able to explore different mediums and many have sensory issues where having sensory activities and breaks embedded into our daily schedule would help them focus. We are currently in need of more art supplies to keep us creating our hands on projects.
My Project
All items requested will be used by the students during table time rotations. Weekly we focus on a letter of the week and do an art project around that theme. For example during I week we made an I iguana craft, made a I crown with I pictures and words and made an I book using I sight words and pictures. These materials will restock our cabinets to ensure we have the supplies needed to continue making our hands on art projects that relate to the common core state standards . Right now in November, besides our letter of the week our theme is food and family. These materials will help support crafts such as a family portrait, a healthy vs. unhealthy food collage. Not only will these materials be used at table time instruction but also during center rotations. At center rotations students have access to art materials to create student led projects. They will be able to use to watercolors to free paint for example or the construction paper and markers to write a card, for example. The clothespins and hole puncher are to help build fine motor skills which many of the students need to work on.
