This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students attend a school in Brooklyn, NY that receives Title I Funding. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds.
Our school believes in inclusion and includes our students with IEPs and our English Language Learners in all of our classes.
This allows for diverse classrooms with all types of learners in the same room, taking the same class.
My Project
In our AP Language and Composition English class, we want to prepare students for college readiness by focusing on texts that are written from a variety of diverse perspectives.
To encourage student choice and independence, we want to have a variety of books from students engage with and select a text that speaks to them.
In order to do this, we need more books from authors that have different lived experiences. In particular, we want books that are written by people in the LGBTQ+ community, the disabled community, and by authors of different cultural backgrounds.
Students should have the option to read engaging texts written by authors that are part of different communities.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
