My middle school students live in a small, rural community. Many of their families are far from being affluent with over 53% qualifying for free and reduced lunch. Some students come to school ready to fully engage, others have many overwhelming real-life obstacles to overcome before they can be ready to focus on learning. They love learning new things, hands on creative projects, and sharing their dreams and accomplishments. They also love to share their knowledge.
The 20 foot inflatable screen will give our students exciting opportunities to showcase their assigned project presentations, view documentaries in class or in our outdoor class space, and share their end-of-year photo memory videos.
This mega screen will not only make movie night the ultimate school-wide incentive reward, it will bring additional excitement to a school dance, create Zumba possibilities in PE, and offer better viewing opportunities for family and friends during 8th grade promotion ceremonies. Recording cheering programs, band and chorus concerts to show the student body during pep rallies will add a new dimension of excitement in our middle school. Having students create video tutorials to be shared with others on this inflatable screen would be a unique learning experience. For example, we just finished researching companion and cold weather planting. My students, many already have sizable gardens at home, actually taught me many new things due to at home experience. Having a playlist of seeds to harvest videos we could watch in our new community garden space would be inspirational as well as informational.
