I teach 1st grade at a wonderful school that is full of great students. My students are at different ability levels. I enjoy working with the students and watching them grow throughout the school year. Thank you for getting an idea about what my classroom is like through Donors Choose.
In our class, we love to work together to share our learning.
The students are craving the materials to be able to put their skills to use. Some of these students do not have the experiences or tools at home to be able to apply their learning in a fun way!
The items that I have chosen for this project are puzzles that the students can use to work on skills like counting money, telling time, adding, subtracting, shapes, and understanding place value. These games will address shapes and spatial awareness, money, math fact fluency, and time. The puzzles are all self-correcting which allows the students to be able to complete the puzzles without direct teacher instruction. The shape games will allow the students to manipulate shapes to create new shapes and pictures. These are all critical skills that need to be mastered by the end of first grade.
With this project, my students will have access to engaging station puzzles.
The materials are colorful to maintain interest and durable to withstand my 1st graders. These stations will meet our most current learning objectives as well as review stations spiraling back to past learning. By using these stations, the students will receive the practice they need to master skills that are necessary for their mathematical foundation. These stations will help their number sense as well as build their addition and subtraction fluency.
The students will be grouped with a partner and will have the opportunity to work with all the stations through our rotation schedule. While these students are working with their station, I will be able to provide one-on-one or small group instruction to meet the needs of all the students in my classroom! They LOVE station time and are looking forward to new stations!
