Our middle school population loves playing chess! Our new MEGA Chess sets are a huge hit. As we live in the northeast, students have been playing this memory-building game of strategy in our library, cafeteria, and classrooms. But the cold weather has finally turned and our MEGA Chess sets need a designated outdoor space. Playing chess outdoors during lunchtime will be a perfect addition for our dynamic middle school population. Giant chess pieces outdoors will certainly keep the human players moving, but a more permanent base/board is needed, as the sets' included mats are lightweight and easily blow away with the wind, adding an unwelcome challenge to this strategy game.
The needed 12 x 12 concrete colored step stones will create a beautiful, permanent, designated outdoor playing area for our two chess sets.
Our students are developing new critical thinking techniques and some friendships that would not have happened without these MEGA Chess sets as a common bond. Through play, watching others, and studying others' "game", it is amazing to see these friendships blossom. STEM at its best!
We are looking forward to seeing more joy, laughter, and social bonding that this new outdoor game space will bring to our 300 students.
