Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I may teach Kindergarten but every student that I have had the privilege of having in my life are "my students." As my students leave elementary school and move onto high school many face challenges that I may never have to face. These 9th-12th graders are hard working, caring students. The live in a community where every student gets free breakfast and lunch and many come from migrant families.

These former students are going to school to better their lives, taking care of younger siblings, and taking care of things at home in order to help their families while their parent(s) / guardians are working or are not in their lives at all.

They work hard in school in order to graduate even through some very hard circumstances. They persevere and don't give up believing there is a better future for themselves and their families.

My Project

These students go to school every day with the expectations of focusing and doing their best to be the best they can be and achieve their goals. That is hard for students who do not have the basic needs such as food, hygiene products, and warm clothing. The food items chosen will give these students some basic food needs to take home so they are not hungry once they leave school. Many of these students leave school and have homework but on top of that they also help their families by taking care of siblings. They do not need to have the challenge of what they and their siblings will be eating. They will know that food was provided for them and they can focus on their schooling and other challenges that maybe we are not able to help with or know about.

Students who are fed and clothed are students who can focus and be stronger learners.

Let's help them worry less about basic needs and enjoy being what they are children and teenagers who should be enjoying what other children and teenagers get to enjoy LIFE!!
