My Project

Group learning on a classroom rug can make the difference for an engaging lesson. With currently having only desks in an all hardwood flooring classroom, the students don't get any movement to a new place to learn. My students have expressed a lot of interest in wanting different places to do their independent reading. With only having desks on hardwood floors, there isn't a lot of flexible seating in the classroom. A carpet would make a great place for students to rotate time during independent reading. A comfortable spot for students to focus will be a great way to foster their love of reading!

With a classroom rug, my students will be able to participate in our morning meeting conversation all together with no distractions.

Each day we start out with a question to do a soft landing into the classroom. When we discuss the topic or question of the day, students have to pass the talking piece all around the classroom while sitting at their desks. By having a classroom carpet, it would create more of a classroom community where all students could sit in a circle and have their morning meeting by easily listening to each other talk. There are also times in the classroom where we need to take a break to talk about something that just happened in the classroom. Some topics that come up in the classroom require doing a restorative circle. In restorative circles, students are able to talk about their feelings, as well as become problem-solvers to determine how the class can successfully move forward as a group. Our classroom restorative circles would be much more focused if we had a rug to sit on all together.
