Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Forrest Gump said a most powerful statement and I quote, "Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you're going to get!" This statement is applicable to life, but not just life - it applies to students, strategies, and schools. My classroom is so much like this box of chocolate from the students to the strategies that are utilized. When walking into my classroom daily students are held to high standards and are engaged in various learning opportunities that they haven't had before. Coming from various socioeconomic statuses, many students have had limited science experiences and it's my job as a teacher to teach them and give them a different experience.

These are not just my students, they are my family and I will do whatever I can for my family.

I currently teach 300 students and out of those approximately half are economically challenged. Not only economically disadvantaged, but we have a growing population of students whose primary language is not English. With that said, I hope to provide hands-on opportunities for all students, so that learning can be obtained by all.

My Project

This project is an expensive one, and hence the reason that our school needs some assistance in the purchase of it. This project will buy a volleyball net system and volleyballs so that our kids will be able to practice and play volleyball at our school.

Participating in team sports is essential in middle school and with your help our students can rise to the challenge.

Volleyball is our project of choice because it enhances energy levels which improves overall performance. Volleyball also improves hand-eye coordination and strengthens and develops fast reflexes. As with any type of physical activity, volleyball improves mental health and enhances the health of the bones and joints.
