Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Nestled in our little corner of the 6th-grade hallway, we are trying to navigate our way through the murky waters of middle school. Fifty-one new sixth-grade students are learning what it means to be a community that cares - cares about their teammates, their school, and their learning.

One way we are learning is by exploring humanities through the arts.

We believe that art is a vital way to showcase the human experience and has been so throughout history. In our project-based learning environment, we know students learn best by doing. My students are excited to create art while exploring the history and the human desire to share stories.

My Project

This semester, students will be studying the classical world and all it had to offer including literature, art, and architecture. Based off of this, they will create small businesses to sell products themed around their learning as well as reproducing a model of one ancient Roman example of architecture.

With a second machine, students will have more chances to use the Cricut to make "souvenirs" for their architectural structure including shirts, stickers, and keychains.

They will also use this machine to cut out pieces for their architectural models. Students are using programs like Procreate and Adobe Illustrator in order to make their designs. In our class, we love the incorporation of hands on learning particularly creating beautiful work to make our studies more memorable and joyful!
