My Project
I love MATH! I also know that a lot of students do NOT love math. Math is a language that is foreign to most adolescent minds and it's a difficult subject to make interesting, relevant, and engaging. Students have trouble finding utility in arbitrary mathematical concepts. "Mr. Yegge, when was the last time you had to find the Volume of a swimming pool or use the quadratic equation to solve for a variable in a binomial equation?" Honestly, it's a good point, right? Wrong. Math isn't about solving equations or just answering test questions right. It's a way of thinking critically and in accordance with logic and reason! It IS an important skill, especially as we plunge ever deeper into a future filled with Big DATA and AI-generated thinking. So, PLEASE help me introduce my middle school math students to CALM thinking with the gift of Handpan/Tongue Drum music. This percussion instrument combines drumbeats with the soft melodic tones of a harp. It will get their attention and hold it as I teach them about scales and the Circle of 5ths! Together we can make this happen and students will be better off because of YOU. Thanks!
