Media Mindfulness: Handling Big Feelings in a Digital World

Help me give my students the tools they need to use be mindful with media and handle big feelings.

My Project

The students of today are on social media; we cannot keep them from it, nor should we. What we should do, however, is teach them how to be mindful while using these apps and not let social media determine what feelings they experience. The books I have requested are designed to do just that.

Using children's books with high school students may seem silly, but it is surprisingly effective.

The lessons are simple and easy to understand, and all big kids feel some nostalgia for their younger days and the joy of being read a picture book. The lessons in these books directly correlate to the bigger picture lessons surrounding social media and the mindfulness we want to encourage.

In addition, our intensive needs special education students love to check out our picture books. We usually stock that section of our library through donations or visiting thrift stores. It would be wonderful for them to be the first students to read brand-new books.

Your donation will help so many children -- through the lesson of protecting their mental health while using social media, to the joy of a student being the very first one to read a book they have never seen before.
