I am the media specialist, so although I listed 999 as the number of students this project will effect, it is actually much higher than that! We service over 2,000 students and this project will last for years to come - having impact on all future students! All of my students are absolutely amazing. We are a 6-12th non-profit high-performance charter school ranked #1 in the state of Florida by U.S. News and we completely focus on the arts and arts integration.
Our students are talented, passionate, and active as they participate in all art forms - fine arts, theater, musical theater, all forms of dance, music, graphic, visual, sculpture, jewelry, martial arts, and so much more!
They are high-impact community members as they all participate in community service, many times well over 200 hours. They always strive to work hard and see the beauty in their peers, cherishing them for their uniqueness. As students in an arts driven school, they are incredibly unique and follow their dreams - believing they can truly be anyone and do anything. They deserve the best, and that's what I hope to give them.
My Project
With all of the budget cuts, the media center is having to find creative ways to buy new books and technology. So we decided to create something that would act as a permanent fundraiser - a student-run High School Cafe! The supplies that I am requesting would be enough to construct the cafe.
We would sell organic fair trade coffee and tea to high school students and use the proceeds to fund the books and technology our students are so desperately in need of.
We will be selling hot and iced coffee, tea, and lattes. The supplies requested include; cabinetry for storage, a mini fridge for milk, frothier canisters to froth milk in, a sink to clean our supplies, a drying mat to set clean items on, several large cold beverage dispensers to store/dispense our iced coffees and teas, a large multi-level coffee maker to brew coffee, a water boiler for hot tea, a tea bag holder, and a cash register. All of these supplies would be enough to get our cafe started!
We serve over 2,000 students and reading is a crucial aspect of growth/critical thinking. On top of being an awesome permanent fundraiser, the cafe allows our student volunteers to receive work experience and teaches them critical customer service and life work skills. It also promotes learning about the importance of healthy food choices and the impact of fair trade. But most importantly, it will raise funds to purchase books and technology that will have lasting lifelong impacts. Access to technology and training in 21st century skills are crucial skills that our future generations will rely on. This cafe would provide us access to the needed technology.
