My Students
Enthusiastic! Motivated! Eager! These are just a few words that describe my middle school students. The students are going to be excited to come back to school AND to keep our 1+ status.
Members of a low-income community, we manage to work with the few manipulatives we have for Math but sometimes it is very difficult because we don't have enough for everyone to use!
I teach grades 6th, 7th, and 8th in Math. Students are being exposed to both Algebra and Geometry which requires a lot of hands-on activities. They love using tools to help them better understand Math.
I would like to start the school year off right with everything we need to be successful and keep that high level of enthusiasm.
My Project
I found excellent models that can be used in Geometry. The Folding Geometric Models show the various geometric shapes such as cubes, cones, and cylinders, just to name a few. Not only will students be able to touch and feel the sides and angles of the shapes, but will also be able to to see the nets - the flattened model and what smaller shapes are used to create the larger geometric shape.
Students will be constructing polygons, measuring, and creating graphs.
As much as they try to draw straight lines, it will be so beneficial to have rulers to help them be more precise in their drawings.
