I remember my high school chemistry class. Although I had a fabulous teacher, our resources were limited and laboratory activities were nonexistent. I have many exciting laboratory exercise planned for the year, but limited resources prevent me from performing them due to lack of balances.
I teach the best and brightest student in our county AP Biology, Biology I and Chemistry I.
Two of these classes are not required, meaning my students CHOOSE to take them. They have a deep desire to learn about chemistry and learning style inventories have proved that the majority of them learn best kinesthetically, by performing hands-on activities to cement learning of principals introduced in the classroom. They are excited about the learning process when they walk in and I have a laboratory exercise planned.
My Project
Having these accurate electronic balances for the classroom would augment the exercises by limiting time spent on triple beam balances that are less accurate. Expected results from labs could be more predictable if my students could have access to these electronic balances. Also, students would be more prepared for a college lab setting if they have prior knowledge of using this type of equipment.
By donating to this project, you will provide support to some amazing students!
Having these electronic balances in our lab will help us to make the most of our 50 minute time schedule with more time spent on instruction and activities and less time on measuring mass with triple beams. Thank you in advance for your anticipated donation to this worthwhile project!!!
