This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach math in an alternative high school. My students have major gaps in their education and I am using technology to show the importance of knowing and using math while inciting a desire to learn and apply spatial reasoning

My students have a limited access to opportunities where they can apply technology (outside of their phones) in their lives.

I am showing them how knowledge of math can help them in life and allow them to better themselves and be more self-sufficient. Helping students believe in themselves is a large part of their achievement. Too often they claim the work is “too hard” but with help, changing this mindset into a growth mindset has profound effects on their education and helps open seemingly locked doors in their lives. With technology and a growth mindset, they learn by leaps and bounds and encourage each other to push their limits and strive to go beyond their perceived limitations.

My Project

I am requesting measuring equipment that can help my students understand units, measurements and conversions which not only helps them understand math but also can help them while they navigate the technical world we live in.

I am requesting fine precision measuring tools which will give my students exposure and the opportunity to understand the significance of magnitude and precision which will not only help them in math but also help open possibilities for them in the technical field that they have never felt possible and which could perhaps even give them a focus as the graduate and enter the workforce.
