Measuring Comprehension

My students need assessment materials to identify specific needs and materials to develop their weaknesses in comprehension.

My Students

Comprehension is the whole point of reading. When students are weak in reading comprehension, they struggle in every area of the curriculum. I need assessment tools to help identify specific comprehension weaknesses and activities and materials to strengthen them.

I teach 21 eager-to-learn 2nd grade students in an at-risk school with 86% free lunch.

It is a small public prekindergarten-3rd grade school in a rural community, where many of our families do not have books in the home for their children. This negatively affects these students' literacy development.

My Project

The requested materials include diagnostic comprehension assessments to guide differentiated instruction, 75 interactive comprehension lessons, 75 center activities, more than 400 books/articles of comprehension skill instruction texts, discs of books, poems, songs, and reproducible worksheets. Students will enjoy the posters, sorts, charts, picture cards, games, and activities that will help develop needed skills.

This treasure trove of materials will help address important literacy needs for my students.

It is too expensive for my district to afford, as there is just no extra money in the budget for it. I plan to make the assessment materials available to all the Kindergarten through Third Grade teachers at my school. Thus it will benefit more than 300 students per year, multiple times per year, year after year. Your generous donation is the only way I can acquire this desperately-needed kit.
