Measuring at the Speed of Light! Spectrophotometer!
Help me give my students spectrophotometers, lab equipment that measures light to identify chemicals, absorption of light, concentrations and measure kinetics of reactions.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have the privilege and responsibility to be working with many of Polytechnic's best students who part of the AP Chemistry class. I have an extremely intelligent and already decorated group of students that halfway through high school have earned scholarships, internships with the superintendent and are part of all the governing councils of the school.
In this class I have the some of the students with the brightest futures that would greatly benefit from having the proper tools and materials.
Our school is mainly a Title I school with over 80% of the students receiving free lunch. It is also predominantly Latinx population exceeding 95%. About half of the students are taking Advanced Placement classes for the first time.
My Project
Spectrophotometry is an area of chemistry that analyzes light to determine chemical composition, absorption of light and even concentration of solutions using Beer’s Law. The spectrophotometer is vital lab equipment AP Chemistry students need to used and experience in order to pass the AP test at the end of the year.
We need this lab equipment to do various college board labs like the percentage of copper in brass, measuring water hardness and ultraviolet kinetics lab to name a few.
Students are expected to do these labs and there are several questions that the students would not be able to answer if they do not have the physical practice of completing the labs.
Besides learning by doing is the best part of chemistry, your funding of our lab equipment would help us learn and have fun at the same time.
