Our school is small and located in the Ozarks of southern Missouri. Outside of school, my students enjoy farm life and the clear blue waters of our local rivers. Small town life has many perks and some disadvantages.
Our school is a low-income district.
The students are hardworking with many determined to make a difference any way they are able. The students in our district often lack the opportunities of larger districts that have more funding. Funding is tight, and there is little money for classroom supplies and technology.
This project is to help provide my students with calculators that will be available at a check station at the front of the classroom. This will help them check their work after completing a difficult problem. The quick study math guides will be available two per table to help them look for order of operations, functions, place value and much more. This will also be a reference during class when working on developing a concept.
Math can be intimidating for many students, these manipulatives will help them become more comfortable learning the skills they need.
Our scores over the past few years in math have been on a decline, I am looking for ways to make the students feel more comfortable when tackling the subject of math.
