Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 2nd grade at a low income, Dual Language school in Linda Vista, CA. My students are 80% Spanish and 20% English and about 70% are English language learners. Our school was closed on Friday, March 13, 2020. The last day of school we were told to prepare a packet for our students.
The students were working on a paper packet and now they are working online work.
The school let students borrow tablets or Chromebooks and even got hotspots (WiFi) for those families that do not have internet at home. The school as well as the teachers have been providing training and help around the clock to parents to teach them how to use the computer. Teachers as well as students have been learning new programs to be able to learn from home during this pandemic. It has been a struggle for all students getting to learn how to use the computer from home.
My Project
These materials will be used for video lessons. I will be using the materials and demonstrating on video how to use the manipulatives to either count or to tell time. I'm requesting base 10 blocks that will teach students place value. I'm requesting a clock kit that will teach students about time and how a clock works. I'm also requesting a number line because is a different way to count and to show fractions, as well as a fraction game. All these are part of the standards students are learning in second grade.
