This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Cooking is one of life's essential skills, and my special education students need instruction in basic skills in this area. We want to incorporate cooking in our daily living skills class in order to prepare our young adults for the adult world.
These resources will allow us to develop a cooking program that builds confidence and independence in our Special Education class, while we prepare foods and learn about budgeting skills.
Cooking skills are important for our learners with special needs because it promotes healthy eating and the following skills:
1. Kids are more likely to enjoy foods they help prepare.
2. Stimulate creativity: Exploring flavors and textures sparks imagination.
5. Teaching students how to be financially ready to budget for healthy meals.
4. Create a fun, social environment: shared cooking experiences build friendships.
We want to expand their cooking experience and also instill the habit of healthy eating. Can you help our class get the convention over, hot plate, pots and pans, and other cooking supplies?
