Help me give my students an opportunity to practice their writing skills by giving them learning tools to enhance the abilities they need to succeed.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are part of a low-income/high poverty school district. They love school and show up everyday with a smile on their faces, ready to learn.
My students are loving, bright, energetic and attentive.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." But when they are in my classroom I like to focus on their gifts and abilities that can help them grow. I have no control over their lives once they step outside of school but when they are in my classroom.
A lot of the students in my classroom walked in having little to no writing skills. Now that we are starting to grow in writing we are struggling with not having the resources for students to practice their skills repeatedly on materials that allows for students to reuse and retry.
These writing tools would help greatly as it would give my students the opportunity to make mistakes and try again.
When there aren't enough resources it is hard to encourage students to make mistakes, and with all of these supplies every student will have a white board with at least one marker, a writing journal, as well as enough lose leaf sheets of writing paper to enhance writing lessons for the foreseeable future.
Having enough whiteboards will make sure that students can keep the board with them throughout lessons and utilize them throughout the day in many different ways. This would be a great way for students of all levels to be able to utilize the boards in a way that best fits their skills level, from writing single words, to building sentences.
