This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Walls walls everywhere, but not a space to write. I have a very large classroom but I am unable to put any of my wall space to good use. Using dry erase paint, I will convert a drab wall into a whiteboard.
I teach an amazing group of tenth graders in Washington, DC.
They are part of a new generation of students who are changing perceptions of a school once associated with poverty, crime and dropouts. They are sharp and perceptive learners and often have insightful questions that I want to be able to respond to quickly and effectively.
My Project
My students are curious learners, and often come up with great questions that I never even anticipate when planning my lessons. Without being able to write on my wall, my lessons are restricted to either writing on chart paper that inevitably falls off from my wall, or a rigid PowerPoint created ahead of time. With a whiteboard, I could be much more spontaneous in my explanations of content, and I could quickly address students' questions without having to change the whole PowerPoint or tape up new sheets of paper. Also, students can be more active participants when they can come to front of the class and write on the board themselves.
Overall, having dry erase paint to create a whiteboard in my classroom will help students enjoy a more flexible, efficient and engaging class.
I will be able to deliver content more quickly and clearly, and students can have a much more active role in what goes on in the front of the class.
