Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are from a Title I school in Nevada. Over 70% of our student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Many of our students come from a low socioeconomic household and have not had many extracurricular experiences. However, the students here are very eager to learn and love to explore. Students love experiencing anything new.

Students have been negatively impacted by the loss of in-person learning due to Covid-19.

Many students have significant learning gaps that need to be filled in order to make them successful in the years ahead.

My Project

The interactive online reading program will help with the developments of English language arts standards for reading literature. Students will be able read the books and answer key ideas and details about the story, CCSS ELA RL.3.1, RL.3.2, RL 3.2. They will also to be able to utilize this program from home. Thus, the reading intervention set will help with remediation of literacy skills and help build reading fluency and comprehension, CCSS ELA RF.3.4. The use of fidgets (velcro dots, squishes) in the classroom allow for students to keep their hands busy but focus their minds on instruction. The students have not been in school all day, all week for over 18 months. They need to rebuild their attention spans while being able to stay active.
