About My Students
Our students come from diverse backgrounds - we have English language learners, Special education learners, immigrant families, and a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. In addition, our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Although they may have the odds stacked against them, they always want to do their best. I have students who stay during lunch and after school who want help with their homework, and with organization skills. Students come up before school starts to print out their assignments because they don't have technology at home.
My students are amazing, and as their science teacher, I want to best support their learning - and you can help!
My primary goals for students are to spark and sustain an interest in science content and skills, to increase confidence and proficency in presenting work, to develop a collaborative and problem-solving mindset as they learn digital literacy and basic organizational skills.
Student are constantly being asked to produce more and more work using technology but lack the basics like access to a printer to make their work stand out. A color printer will allow my students to produce their work they way they envisioned it, in bright vivid colors as seem on the computer screen.
In Their Own Words
We are always searching for a printer whenever our projects are due. We would go from classroom to classroom to find a teacher that will let us use their printer and in most cases it prints only black. At times the teachers will complain about their in that they have to buy. It is hard to get to the library and a lot of us don't have printers at home.
Mr. Rose too us about this opportunity on donors choose and we brainstormed on what kind of project we can do. We then agreed after some time on a classroom color printer because it is something we can all use and we all need. We all agree to bring paper and only to print what is approved by at least 3 students in our group.
We do lots of project and display them on pasteboards for gallery walks. It would be cool if we could print our slides in color. We also do a lot of graphs and color code our scientific explanations. The color images would make our presentation pop and look a lot better.
Having a printer in our classroom will help us relax when we have work due because we know where to go to get it printed. It is so stressful for all of us to find a printer when we all need one at the same time.
