This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are hard-working, driven individuals who are looking to exceed all expectations and set the bar high for their families and their communities by excelling in academics and becoming strong leaders within their communities. Many of our students come from low-income backgrounds and have not had the opportunity to attend a high-performing school yet in their lives.
My students are motivated to make tremendous growth in their academics this year and push themselves to develop into scholars who are aware of and working to right social injustice.
My Project
The graphic novel Maus has recently made headlines for being banned in a school district in Tennessee. Learning that this is a banned book has made our students intrigued and ask to read it. We want to make this possible for our students and build a unit focused on exploring the idea of what it means to build a society where everyone's humanity is valued equally.
Help us get copies of the complete Maus graphic novel so that we can teach our students about the Holocaust, help them make connections to current injustices that we see in our world, and reflect on how they can contribute to making out society more anti-racist, equitable and just.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
